Let me repeat: the solution to this issue is NOT to make up more categories for relationships. The world does not care that you are a secretive demi-vulnerable 4 on the affectionate touch scale. Do not fucking banalize all these different behaviors, I swear to fuck. The solution is to start talking about our relationships broadly yet descriptively when they come up, realizing that all of us do them slightly differently, and that the stupid mainstream narratives are unhelpful for almost everyone. And, importantly, that the vagueness of terms like “friendship” and “romance” and “bffs” and “partners” and, hell, “LOVE”, means that those words actually encompass many different types of relationships in practice.
